Clinical Questions

Question: In your own words, could you describe the responsibilities of a CNA?

• Example answer: “A CNA is responsible for assisting patients with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and eating. We also monitor vital signs, provide emotional support, and ensure patients’ comfort. Reporting any significant changes in a patient’s condition to the nursing staff is also a crucial part of the role.”
• Look for: Comprehensive understanding of CNA tasks, importance of monitoring vital signs and reporting changes, emphasis on ensuring patient comfort, and a clear understanding of the role and its significance in healthcare

Question: How do you manage your workload so each patient receives the care they need?

• “I prioritize tasks by the urgency of patient needs and always keep a checklist. Effective communication with my team members ensures we cover all bases and support each other, making sure no patient is overlooked.”
• Look for: Time management, organizational skills, ability to work with a team, and attention to detail

Question: How do you ensure patients feel safe and secure while you provide care?

• Example answer: “I always start by introducing myself and explaining my role. I ensure to communicate clearly about the procedures I will perform and ask for their consent. Maintaining eye contact and being attentive to their needs helps build trust and makes them feel secure.”

Question: What would you do if a patient was uncooperative and resistant to treatment?

• Example answer: “I would try to understand the root cause of their resistance by asking gentle questions and listening to their concerns. If they continue to refuse, I would respect their decision and document the incident, informing the RN.”
